Bestselling authors Dan Heath and Dr. Gholdy Muhammad to keynote conference
SYRACUSE, N.Y., Oct. 13, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Reading League (TRL), a global nonprofit advancing evidence-aligned reading instruction, officially announced its two major events for 2027: The Reading League Summit, April 8–9 in Orlando, Florida, and the 11th Annual Conference of The Reading League, Sept. 29–Oct. 1, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Registration for both events is now open.

The announcement was made during TRL’s 10th Annual Conference in Chicago, where the organization celebrated a decade of advancing evidence-aligned reading instruction while looking ahead to the next decade of its work.
“One of The Reading League’s greatest strengths is the passionate community that has grown around this work. Our 2027 events will bring educators, researchers, and leaders together to listen, learn, engage, and connect with one another,” said Dr. Maria Murray, president and CEO of The Reading League. “Whether participants join us in Orlando or Charlotte — or both — we look forward to creating experiences that inspire continued learning and meaningful implementation.”
2027 Summit: Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) – Orlando, Fla.
TRL will hold its 2027 Summit April 8–9 at the Rosen Centre Hotel and will focus on MTSS. Designed as a highly interactive, hands-on experience, the 2027 Summit will move beyond traditional presentations and actively engage participants in learning and implementing MTSS strategies. School and district teams are encouraged to attend together to support shared learning and collaboration.
11th Annual Conference: Charlotte, N.C.
The Reading League’s 11th Annual Conference will take place Sept. 29–Oct. 1, 2027, at the Charlotte Convention Center, bringing together thousands of educators, researchers, policymakers, advocates, and literacy leaders from across the country and around the world. The 2027 conference will feature two keynote speakers:
- Dan Heath, the #1 New York Times bestselling author or co-author of six books, including Upstream, Switch, Made to Stick, Decisive, The Power of Moments, and Reset, will deliver the opening keynote. - Dr. Gholdy Muhammad, Professor of Literacy, Language, and Culture at the University of Illinois Chicago and author of the bestselling book Cultivating Genius: An Equity Framework for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy, will deliver the closing keynote. Dr. Muhammad will offer a culturally and historically responsive approach to cultivating genius and joy in education. She will present her equity framework, called the HILL Model, to help educators develop students’ histories, identities, literacies, and liberation.
